I had a good career in Eavesdroppings before I moved here. In a college town there is so much wonderful nonsense to be overheard. Apparently it is not so where I am now, unless I just hit a stroke of bad overheard luck. I listened tirelessly all week long and got next to nothing but soccer scores and remarks from folks in dire need of a good contractor.
The only worthy eavesdroppings I got were (not surprisingly) on the train (out of town):
1. "So that's where pallets go to die" (shipping yard near Rutherford)
2. "It was one of those places you go, for like, spiritual things, like Urban Outfitters"(somewhere under the Hudson River)
3. "You know what said to him? You know what I said to him? Nothing I can say in front of you" (Clifton)
That's it. I am in such a state about the distressing lack of overheard substance around here that I couldn't even draw the ones I had. If you want to see some of my favorite illustrated eavesdroppings you'll have to go here. Please tell me you did better this week than I did!
Next week's suggested topic: "quick fixes": stuff you know you need to do (and could do in a flash), but for whatever reason, it remains undone.

i concentrated on things i overhear my kids and their friends say. they seem to always come up with the strangest things!

Great topic, I often think "I should write that down", but remember one from yesterday. Two guys passing me, one saying: "My student loan just barely covers my monthly bills"...
I wonder what he eats? It's not easy being a student!

I *so* wanted to do this one, but ended up with one of those weeks (it's been a couple, actually), and didn't end up getting to go much of anywhere by myself so I could overhear. When I have my kids along I can't overhear ANYTHING because my younger two, especially, never stop talking. I reserve the right to return to this prompt at a later date, though. ;)
I did hear someone on a cell phone yesterday but it was so profanity-laden I wouldn't feel comfortable posting it on my blog...
Even with the headstart, I got nothin' this week! Thought that driving kids to homecoming, and then working the coat check room would be great. Nothing! The coffee shop, elevators at work, mall, nada. Gonna have to work on it, yeah? so you know what I say to him? Nothing I can say to you...

Aw, blurg. Looks like you'll have to turn to domestic eavesdropping (of the wee people in your home) to satisfy those cravings. There's gotta be a goldmine there!
